Yeast and thrush are types of fungal growth, also known as candida, that often occur when the internal system (flora and fauna) are imbalanced. This internal imbalance is often caused by the use of antibiotics, or by consuming large amounts of sugar and yeasty foods. Candida most commonly grows in moist, dark areas, which is why the diaper area and mouth are where fungal growth often occur. A yeast infection usually appears as a reddish-pink, raised patchy rash with sharp borders. Thrush appears as white, curd-like patches inside of babies mouth around the lips and tongue, as well as on Mama nipples. Both forms of candida can cause itching, inflammation, and discomfort. Once a person gets candida, they are often more susceptible to future outbreaks.
There are two things that should occur simultaneously to help effectively treat yeast or thrush. The first is that the positive bacteria in the body should be increased by the use of acidophilus, which can be found in the live cultures of yogurt, or in probiotics. Probiotics can be found for both baby and Mama in the refrigerated section of health food stores. The second method is by eliminating the fungus itself, both internally and externally.
Most types of candida that are found externally are also often present in the digestive system. Because of this, using an external anti-fungal remedy alone does not always eliminate the source of the problem. Mama Rose’s Naturals offers Yeast and Thrush Away in both tea and tincture form.
Yeast & Thrush Away Tea is a loose leaf tea that is very effective for cleansing candida growth both internally and externally. Infuse the herbs with hot water for 10 minutes and strain to make a nice tea. For internal use, it tastes much better with milk and honey, although you want to minimize the use of sugar as much as possible when fighting candida. This tea has a very distinguished taste, and when a little creamy and sweet, and to my surprise it is my daughters favorite kind of tea in flavor. One cup twice a day for adult use, and a few drops in the mouth is sufficient for babies under 6 months of age. Toddlers and children can take a tablespoon at a time according to their size and weight. The tea can also be used on a washcloth to cleanse any external candida in the mouth, on nipples, or on genitals, or poured into bath water for a soak. The tea is very dark, and it makes the bath water look mucky, but it is a very effective method for yeast infections.
Yeast & Thrush Away Herbal Supplement can be used to eliminate candida growth internally, and may help externally as well. It should be used cautiously when used for babies under 2 years of age. For babies under 6 months old, one drop under the tongue every 30 minutes up to 8 times per day should be sufficient, and 2-4 drops for babies over 6 months. It may help sooth some types of genital candida, however it may irritate others, so if you use it for external yeast infections, use a very small amount, and be prepared to clean the area if baby shows signs of irritation. A normal adult dose is 1 teaspoon internally or externally. You should feel relief after the first dose, as it is very effective.
Yeast and Thrush Away Tea or Herbal Supplement contain herbs that are not recommended during pregnancy. Should candida occur while pregnant, please consult your primary care physician.
For yeast in the diaper area, this can be done with an anti-fungal cream. Mama Rose’s Naturals Magic Touch Skin & Diaper Balm does contain anti-fungal and antibacterial properties without clogging the absorbency of cloth diapers. There are anti-fungal creams available over the counter, such as Lotrimin. Putting plain, unsweetened yogurt on the diaper area can help yeast growth as well.
Yeast growth can sometimes be prevented by treating the first signs of diaper rash or redness with an anti-fungal diaper ointment. Do not use baby powders during times of yeast infection, particularly not powders that contain cornstarch or talc. Yeast can feed off of cornstarch and inflame more rapidly. Mama Rose’s Naturals Stardust Baby Powder is an herbal power that does not contain cornstarch or talc, and can be mixed with plain yogurt and applied to the diaper area to help sooth yeast infections or diaper rash. Most any powder can be irritating during times of yeast infections.
If symptoms persist for a few days or get increasingly worse, you should consult your physician right away.
